Afterword: How relevant is the book of Isaiah to us today?

The book of Isaiah, nestled in the middle of the Old Testament, is a monumental work of prophecy and poetry. It is traditionally attributed to the prophet Isaiah, who lived in the eighth century BCE in the kingdom of Judah.

Divided into 66 chapters—the same number of books found in the Protestant Bible—the book of Isaiah addresses a variety of themes and issues. These range from the consequences of sin and the call to repentance to the promise of redemption and restoration. The book's imagery and eloquent language captivate readers. Its prophetic messages have echoed through the ages, addressing humanity's deepest hopes. Through visions of a future Messiah and glimpses of a new heaven and earth, Isaiah calls our attention to God's unfailing faithfulness and His promise of salvation.
